  1. Dear all,

I have just posted the revised version of the Translation Guidelines (2012). It is a draft that is up for discussion and on which you can comment. I hope that we can discuss it in more detail at our next meeting on 15.12.2010. See you then!

  2. The current version for review is Guidelines for Translation of SNOMED CT_final_Ima.docs

  3. Ole Våge and Maria-Cornelia Wermuth Ole mailed me his feedback; I have uploaded it here.

  4. I was some what confused by the different versions, but I continued with Camilla's version (chapters 1 & 2 as agreed). Maybe Oles comments must be integrated in this one (or vice versa) in order not to lose anyones work?

  5. I have added Ole's comment to Emma's version. Emma Hultén did you use the version Camilla Wiberg Danielsen uploaded yesterday? In that case I think we are back to one version now (smile)

  6. Btw you can change a document, rather than create a new one, using the Atlassian companion.

  7. No worries. I have just uploaded a version that Cornelia just sent me, which should contain every comment from every version.

  8. I have implemented all the corrections in the last version I just posted. I have used the extension yyyymmdd.docx suggested by Camilla so that we have a neat copy when we start revising the 4th chapter.

My suggestion would be for everyone to read through the first 3 chapters one last time by tomorrow and add any changes that still need to be made to this revised version.

    Kind regards, Cornelia

  9. Looks good! I've added a few fresh comments, but nothing major.

  10. Hi all, I managed to add comments for chapters including 4.2.4.2 False friends. Whoa, this is a long chapter!

    See you all soon.

  11. Dear all,

I have incorporated all comments, suggestions for improvement and also new examples (including the Norwegian example for term equivalence of Ole) into the text (up to  p. 32). Unfortunately, I cannot attend tomorrow's meeting due to scheduling reasons, but I will be back next time. I think we should then have a fundamental discussion about how paragraph 4 (i.e. from 4.2 onwards) needs to be revised to make it relevant to all languages. At the moment, the content is actually completely adapted to English. I think it would be useful to make a short list of the phenomena that apply to all languages (e.g. spelling of numbers, use of verb tenses, etc.) and then refer to language-specific national guidelines for a detailed discussion. Please keep me informed. Until the next meeting best regards, Cornelia

  12. Dear all, I have incorporated the most important suggestions for change from the last meeting into the document. However, there are still some questions to be clarified tomorrow (including a consideration as to whether the technical designation "description" should be clearly separated from the natural language designation "term" in the introduction and Section 2.1; see also the German guidelines). In my opinion, this is a fundamental problem with SNOMED CT translation: the guidelines recommend a terminological, natural language-based approach to translating a formal ontology, which can lead to confusion (e.g. a formal 'description' is not in fact the same as a term).
