Kai Kewley is working on language-aware term searching in the Snowstorm software, which will e.g. soon be the backend of the SNOMED authoring environment as well as the public browser.
Different languages have different requirements, e.g. in Swedish Å, Ä, and Ö are distinct characters whereas in German they are variants of A and O and should be folded when searching, sorting and querying. In English SNOMED CT, the few uses of Swedish charactes there are (like Ångström, the length unit) have been folded (in this case into Angstrom).
Could everyone please try to collect the requirements for your specific language (or together with others speaking the same language)?
