  1. Need update to template language

    1. Hi Bruce Goldberg, I have updated the template language. Could I ask for clarification for this new template? It seems that this template represents any disease that is caused by a substance and due to an infection. Should the pathological process exclude 441862004|Infectious process (qualifier value)|. The infection is captured by the condition as the value of the |Due to| attribute. So, the condition modelled by this template would not be classified under infectious disease. Or it is also intended to capture infectious conditions caused by an organism. Then, why do we need a causative agent of substance? Cheers, Yong

  2. Hi Yong. This template is meant to represent diseases caused by bacterial toxins e.g. diphtheria, botulism, tetanus, etc. The question arises as to whether these should be modeled as infections or as diseases caused by toxins due to infections in which these would not be subtypes of infection. If you look at how botulism vs. diphtheria is modeled currently in SNOMED you can see what I am referring to. If we want these to be captured as a subtype of infection then having a causative agent <<18836009 |Bacterial toxin (substance)| in role group 0 and role group 1 representing the infection would suffice. If we do not want to consider these to be kinds of infections then the model I have proposed with the change you suggest to exclude infectious diseases as values of due to (+ limiting substance to <<18836009 |Bacterial toxin (substance)| would be better. Ultimately a property chain linking substance to organism as we have been discussing for allergy would result in disease caused by bacterial substance being subsumed by infectious disease caused by organism I think.

  3. Peter G. Williams , please update template language. I have changed the template to be specific for food poisoning as it seems that all disorders due to infections and caused by substances are food poisonings. Food poisonings capture a few additional concepts such as chemical food poisoning.

    Thank you
