Yongsheng Gao Jim Case Please review the change I made to the FSN, does this make sense?
Yongsheng Gao
Hi Monica Harry, It looks good to me. I added the tags for key elements and made minor changes to the description pattern. The format for cardinality is updated. I also include the subattribute |Using access device| for endoscopy assisted procedures that might need to be used.
Monica Harry
Thank you!
Jim Case
Would the initial word be "Endoscopic" as opposed to "Endoscopy"?
Also, given that many "scopy" procedures do not use the scope as the access device, this will isolate gastrointestinal procedures where the endoscope is used to access the lesion from other "scopy" procedures since the others use USING DEVICE instead of USING ACCESS DEVICE.
Monica Harry
Yes, thanks, will amend that now.

Just a thought
If the endoscopy element is covered in its own role group - for those concepts that are using the scope for imaging but the scope is not the access device, is there a need for the Using device in the assisted procedure role group - would this be covered by the inspection role group
and if you had robotic assistance for example, then you would not have 2 Using device relationships
Monica Harry
Ian SpiersDo you have examples of concepts you are thinking about. There procedures other than inspection wherein the scope is used to perform the action... it is nuanced in that in some cases a separate incision is made for separate/individual instruments to be inserted e.g. Laparoscopic procedures vs cystoscopy or G.I. endoscopies. where the instrument is passed down via an "operating" scope so the scope is both Using device and Using access device at the same time. Let's discuss.

I think on last call there was a discussion on operations that use the scope for access - those that involve going through orifices e.g. mouth to GI tract - so we would use Using access device
The other type that was discussed were operations that involved using the scope for visualisation and then other incision/ports for instruments to perform the action such as removal
in these cases you would use a role group of inspection for the endoscope and include a role group for the incision
In those cases i was unsure whether you would model the Using device Endoscope on the role group that represents the action e.g. removal - as this is already covered by the inspection role group - which is there to represent the visualisation
Happy to discuss
