SNOMED International is pleased to announce the publication of the SNOMED CT Template Syntax v1.0. The Template Syntax presents the formal rules for representing slots in SNOMED CT expressions, expression constraints and queries. A slot represents a constraint and/or a placeholder for a value that is not known at the time of authoring, but which can be completed at a later time.

The SNOMED CT Template Syntax may be used in conjunction with any of the computable SNOMED CT languages to represent templates of various kinds in a consistent way. For example, the Template Syntax can be used with SNOMED CT Compositional Grammar to create the SNOMED CT Expression Template Language. The Expression Template Language v1.0 incorporates the latest version of the SNOMED CT Expression Constraint Language (v1.3) to restrict the valid values that may be used to populate a slot. Expression templates can be used to support a variety of use cases, including the authoring of concepts and the creation of patterns for postcoordination.

As previously announced (in April 2017), due to requests from SNOMED International Members and other stakeholders, SNOMED CT® has drafted a position statement describing the relationship between the proposed SNOMED CT Pharmaceutical/biologic product concept model and other international standards.

As this initiative evolves, SNOMED International's Content Team is tasked to make updates to this position statement in order to ensure proper communication of changes to the community of stakeholders.

SNOMED International seeks proposals from suitable organisations to develop a Machine Readable Concept Model (MRCM) Maintenance Tool. The Request for Proposal and Functional Requirements Specification can be found below.

The Request for Proposal and Functional Requirements Specification can be found in the attached documents:

  • Request for Proposal
  • Requirements Specification

If you are interested in responding, all responses to this RFP should be submitted via email to rfp@ihtsdo.org with ‘Response to MRCM Maintenance Tool’ in the subject line. Any questions on the RFP should be sent to the same email address and we will respond as soon as possible.

The deadline for submission is 0800 hrs Monday 17th July 2017.

The draft SNOMED CT Template Syntax specification is available for your review and commentary.  This document presents the formal rules for representing slots in SNOMED CT expressions, expression constraints and queries. A slot represents a constraint and/or a placeholder for a value that is not known at the time of authoring, but which can be completed at a later time.

The Template Syntax may be used with any of the computable SNOMED CT languages to represent templates of various kinds in a consistent way. For example, using the template syntax with SNOMED CT Compositional Grammar enables the representation of the Expression Template Language. Expression templates can be used to support a variety of use cases, including the authoring of concepts and the creation of patterns for post-coordination.
