The draft SNOMED CT Template Syntax specification is now available for your review and commentary.  This document presents the formal rules for representing slots in SNOMED CT expressions, expression constraints and queries. A slot represents a constraint and/or a placeholder for a value that is not known at the time of authoring, but which can be completed at a later time.

The Template Syntax may be used with any of the computable SNOMED CT languages to represent templates of various kinds in a consistent way. For example, using the template syntax with SNOMED CT Compositional Grammar enables the representation of the Expression Template Language. Expression templates can be used to support a variety of use cases, including the authoring of concepts and the creation of patterns for post-coordination.

Please submit all comments by Monday 17th July 2017, using the 'Feedback' button at the bottom of each Confluence page (http://snomed.org/sts).

We need your valuable nominations for the SNOMED International awards. The deadline is June 30.

SNOMED International has two awards: the Award for Excellence (given annually) and the Lifetime Achievement Award (given periodically).

An employee of SNOMED International is eligible to nominate someone so long as he or she finds someone else from the Community of Practice to be a co-nominator.

Information about the awards is available at https://ihtsdo.freshdesk.com/solution/folders/4000010554

So think about someone who is worthy. Someone who deserves it. Someone who should be honored at the SNOMED International gala dinner in Bratislava this October.

The nomination forms are attached for convenience and should be submitted to info@snomed.org. We look forward to receiving them back completed from you!

And on behalf of all of us at SNOMED International, a warm thank you!

Within NHS Wales, an electronic patient record system has been developed since 2009 with a focus on a core generic clinical information model built using SNOMED CT.

Mark Wardle, Consultant Neurologist, at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and Andy Spencer, Chair of the Informatics for Quality Committee, have recently produced a case study of the implementation of SNOMED CT in an online clinical database in Wales.

The case study outlines how SNOMED CT has proven clinical benefits, including supporting:

  • Direct patient care by making information available immediately to staff at the point of care
  • Clinical governance and service provision by making aggregated data immediately available in live reporting
  • Clinical research with a focus on generic and disease-specific patient outcomes.
