Time period (24 H) is often specified in NCPT but not always in SNOMED CT, e.g. 10073 Vitamin A estimated intake in 24 hours => 286604002 | Vitamin A intake (observable entity) |
Is intake just from diet or other sources (in NCPT and SNOMED CT), e.g. 282029009 | Dietary potassium intake (observable entity) | vs. 230124009 | Magnesium intake (observable entity) |
What are the intended values of "Initiation of breastfeeding"? Yes/No, date? Cf FH-7.1.1.1, 169745008 | Breastfeeding started (finding) | is a finding whereas most other SNOMED concepts are observables.
Hi Daniel Karlsson, I will let the CRG answer your questions. I will just note that related to your second question, SI and the Nutrition Group agree that "dietary" is ambiguous and this content is being inactivated (

has a few more details). Most of the "Dietary X intake (observable entity)" concepts were inactivated for the January 2021 release. There are a couple remaining that we need to inactivate for the July release.
Time frame of 24 hours is included in some observable because this is relevant to country reference intakes or other medical guidelines and this observation may impact the nutrition therapy. The broader intake concept is appropriate for defining, for example, 870466000 |Inadequate intake of vitamin A and vitamin A derivative (finding)| because it would not be accurate to define this finding with one 24 intake concept.
Intake is from all sources (food, supplements, enteral feeding and parenteral nutrition).
Initiation of breastfeeding-we would recommend that this be the date. Mostof our nutrition assessment concepts are in the SNOMED observable hierarchy, but the nutrition assessment concept of Start breastfeeding, in our international terminology, is mapped to a concept we deemed an appropriate match 169745008 | Breastfeeding started (finding) | that already existed in SNOMED CT. So, although most are observables, some concepts are mapped to findings.
As resources permit, we are adding the 24 hour concepts and the broader intake concepts (for defining findings etc) to SNOMED CT. Our commitment is to add 150-200 concepts each edition.

Thanks Suzanne Santamaria, Donna Pertel,
regarding time frame, will there be both "24 H" and generic concepts added, one set for mapping to NCPT and one for defining findings/other usages?
regarding breastfeeding, if the intension is date of breastfeeding initiation, it should likely be an observable and the mapping should be updated.
Regards,
Daniel
