Early Bird Deadline September 16
Hurry, there's only a few days left until the early bird registration deadline for SNOMED CT Expo 2016. This year's Expo is a can't miss event: amazing regional and international speakers, a sold-out exhibition area, opportunities to network with SNOMED CT experts from across the world...what else could you ask for?
Introducing SNApp
Brand new to the Expo this year is SNApp: a 'hackathon' designed to challenge participants to develop an app using SNOMED CT. Delegates will get the chance to see the teams at work over the course of the Expo, culminating in a vote and prize award at the end of the conference.
Travelling to New Zealand to attend our conference is easy
New Zealand is approximately a 10-hour direct flight from most places in the Pacific Rim, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, the west coast of the USA and it is only a 3-hour flight for neighbouring pacific islands and the eastern seaboard of Australia. Options to fly direct to Auckland (New Zealand’s main international airport) or directly to Wellington with a new Singapore Airlines connection via Canberra commencing this September. Numerous daily flights connect Auckland and Wellington with a 1-hour flight time. Please click here for more information.
The IHTSDO seeks a proposal from a suitable organization or individual to align LOINC Parts with equivalent SNOMED CT concepts and develop new SNOMED CT content as part of the Cooperation agreement between the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) and the Regenstrief Institute, Incorporated (RII).
Responses to this RFP should be submitted via email to rfp@ihtsdo.org with ‘Response to Provision of aligning LOINC Parts to SNOMED CT’ in the subject line. The deadline for this is Monday 26th September, 2016.

To all staff, stakeholders and Members of IHTSDO:
In April 2016 some concerns were raised that the governance structure of IHTSDO may need revision as a result of the rapid growth of the organisation. These concerns were considered by the General Assembly, Management Board and Management Team, who collectively agreed it was timely to commission external experts to review and advise us on our governance structures.
The external reviewers were asked to interview representatives of IHTSDO to inform:
- a 360? review of the governance structure
- An analysis of the current governance structure and procedures of IHTSDO and how they contribute to organisational effectiveness, sustainability and growth
The consultants interviewed some 25 individuals as part of the review process. The consultant report has been considered by the General Assembly Oversight Group, and discussed at a meeting of the Executive of the General Assembly, the Management Board and some of the Management Team.
The report confirms that the organisation is highly successful, that its staff, its Members and its Management Board represent a highly skilled and dedicated work force committed to the value base of the organisation and its on-going success. It also outlined some challenges in our governance structure and recommended some changes that would position the organisation to manage further growth effectively and efficiently. Increasing collaboration and cooperation between the Management Board, the Management Team and the General Assembly is key to the successful design and implementation of the report’s recommendations.
We have just concluded the first of a number of meetings that will be held between now and October, whereby the Management Board, Management Team and General Assembly will work together to co-design a revised governance structure that represents IHTSDO stakeholders and Members.
The first results of our work will be ready for discussion at the October Conference in New Zealand. We are all committed to strengthening IHTSDO and improving its effectiveness and agility as an organisation. Openness, transparency and communication are the foundations of all high performing organisations and in this spirit we felt it was important to report back to you on the progress we have made as a result of commissioning this external report.
We look forward to meeting up with many of the IHTSDO community in Wellington.

Nominations are invited at this time for the post of Vice-Chair of the IHTSDO Anesthesia Special Interest Group (SIG). Activity is undertaken through regular phone conferences and the annual IHTSDO Business Meeting in October, if a face-to-face meeting is required. The Vice-Chair should also be willing to assume the responsibilities of Chair if the Chair is not available.
Nominations, using the form attached below, should be sent to Fleur McBriar at fmc@ihtsdo.org by Wednesday 13th July 2016 (by 23:00 UTC).
If there are a number of candidates, a process of election will take place and decisions reviewed by the Healthcare Professional Coordination Group before sign-off by the IHTSDO Management Board. The successful candidate is expected to start immediately upon sign-off.
