As extensions provide additional concepts, descriptions, and relationships, it is essential for those developing extensions to understand the logical design of these components. Clearly, extension specific aspects of component design are of particular interest to producers of extensions.

The following subsections present logical design considerations for each of these components. Within each of these sections, the components and their attributes are described, and examples are provided where applicable. The rules referenced below apply to the applicable release file tables and the attributes within these tables. For a complete list of these tables and attributes, please consult the SNOMED CT Release File Specifications.

The following subsections are principally concerned with rules and definition as opposed to the process of authoring content. For information on extension specific authoring processes, please see section 5.4 Authoring
