The Extensions Practical guide presents the purposes and the design of SNOMED CT extensions, and it describes the processes and principles involved with the creation, distribution and management of extensions. It is crucial for the quality and integrity of any SNOMED CT Edition that extension producers are familiar with the principles and rules associated with extensions. This report is therefore developed to benefit members, vendors and other SNOMED CT Affiliates who need to customize SNOMED CT, by the creation of local SNOMED CT components and derivatives, represented within an extension, to assure that SNOMED CT extensions are produced consistently and following the general principles.
