Dentistry diagnosis subset feedback from UK, specifically based on semantic types
Hi all,
We have received feedback centrally from the UK regarding the Diagnosis subset, the feedback is as follows:
721144007 General Dentistry diagnostic refset contains the code
109787002 Inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia of mouth (disorder)
..as a still active member, but this code was inactivated as ambiguous in July 2021.
Neither of its designated MAY_BE_A replacements is already a member.
The mor
igreen- Duly noted. Thank you for the feedback. This will be discussed with the members of the Dentistry project group that originally created the reference set. Thank you, Monica
All the concepts below have been requested by Jørn to be added to the Odontogram Refset.
To be added to Odontogram Refset:
3262009 Structure of root canal of tooth (body structure)
4335006 Upper jaw region structure (body structure)
18755003 Supragingival dental calculus (disorder)
23580000 Hemisection of tooth (procedure)
34043003 Dental consultation and report (procedure)
37156001 Disorder of jaw (disorder)

First - sign up for the UMLS United Medical Language System of the US National Library of Medicine (https://uts.nlm.nih.gov/metathesaurus.html https://uts.nlm.nih.gov/metathesaurus.html) and then try the new Metathesaurus Browser alpha release.
"The UMLS Metathesaurus includes names and codes from standard biomedical vocabularies including SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, MeSH, CPT, ICD-10-CM, MedDRA, Human Phenotype Ontology, and more. For a full list of UMLS vocabularies, see the UMLS Metathesaurus Vocabulary Documentation https://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/sourcereleasedocs/index.html.
How do I get an account?
Anyone can sign up https://uts.nlm.nih.gov/license.html for a free UMLS Terminology Services account. By agreeing to the terms of the UMLS Metathesaurus License, you get access to UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, and the Value Set Authority Center."
Second - Look up some terms that are on your template. Write down the code if a term is present. If it is not present, put it on an "absent" list.
Third - When you have some terms that don't have codes, you and I should talk via a webconference such as Zoom or Google Hangouts. The process I use for getting new SNOMED CT US codes is to first propse them from the American Dental Association SNODENT group meeting. If accepted, they are forwarded to SNOMED CT US. It can take a few months fo get a new code.
Please let me know how you are doing.

. . . . I came across a few issues in the usage of concepts and their synonyms mentioned in Odontogram refset.
The synonyms mentioned for SCTID: 113278005 (Structure of mandibular left central incisor tooth (body structure) should be instead used for SCTID: 425106001 (Structure of permanent mandibular left central incisor tooth (body structure), else the "is a" relationship doesn't fit. The same is true for similar concepts in the hierarchy.

Preliminary agenda and background information for the next Dental CRG meeting are available under documents heading. Agenda is listed as July 9 prelim, then a background document on BPE and another on findings and procedures.
In SNOMED CT there may be an inconsistency on lingual or palatinal. Looking into root surfaces they are separate concepts - but buccal are missing. This means that there is a possibility that whoever made this could have intended to produce two surfaces on either side of the tooth - or just forgot about the side turning outwards.
But trying to fix it - would you say we should have concepts for both lingual and palatinal? Or one concept with both words as synonyms - and a generic FSN? My take
Under the documents section, there are five available for review for this meeting:
February 22 2018 meeting agenda
Caries review rationale
Copy of caries spreadsheet
Notes from dental CRG meeting Feb 7
Projected work plan 2018
We are currently trying to determine the difference between these concepts and Jim had asked for your input. I know we had some discussions regarding myofacial pain. Any comments are appreciated.
I also agree with Jorn Andre’s statement that craniofacial pain and headache is not the same. Both are groupers of pain based on anatomical locations that partially overlap with the result that some instances of craniofacial pain are headaches but not all and some headaches would also fit the category of craniofacial pain, but not all. If the sharing of the finding site is the reason that causes related concepts to be primitives, I am afraid it might be a difficult issue to resolve.
