The modeling for conditions caused by substance or product has been discussed at the joint Modeling and Editorial AG meetings. Clinical conditions, e.g. allergy, adverse reaction, poisoning, contact dermatitis, have been modeled by substances in SNOMED CT. In practice, these conditions could be reported by medicinal products in clinical records.
A key question is whether a condition caused by a substance should have any hierarchical relationship to a condition caused by a product/physic
I am including a summary of last week’s call regarding the upcoming presentation to the MF to obtain support for continuing to develop the allergy/intolerance implementation guide. I underlined the key points and had one question (in red).
Response from Asia Pacific side of member forum:
Asia-Pacific was a fairly quiet audience, but people were supportive of the IG development work. There were no new volunteers, although I know you garnered some from the first call – from Canada, at least.
The sessions were at least successful in raising awareness, so I wonder if the next step is to take this back to Ian Green to see what support can be provided.
I can follow-up with Ian.
Marie was correct in that FHIR seems to conflate non-allergic hypersensitivity (pseudoallergy) with allergy. "Adverse reactions may be: an allergy (typically type I hypersensitivity, plus other "allergy-like" reactions, including pseudoallergy)". FHIR distinguishes between allergy/pseudoallergy and intolerance but admits that practically they too are often lumped together . "In clinical practice distinguishing between allergy and intolerance is difficult and might not be practical. Often t
Dear all. We worked on this list of allergy to substance groupers in terms of which concepts were not clinically useful and could be retired. For some reason, rows 191-248 were not filled in. I went ahead and provided my suggestions but if you could take a peak and let me know if you disagree with any of my decisions, please let me know.
Thanks you
Actually, the list we need to review is different. A Google sheet has been created and the link is below. As there are close to 100 concepts to review, I have decided to scheule a call for next week t=so that we can begin work on these together. This work will impact the work that is in development for modeling of adverse reactions/allergies to products. I will send out a reminder for the call next week.

Dear all. Due to my ongoing preparations for the upcoming SNOMED meeting in Malaysia, I have not been able to put together an agenda for next week’s Allergy CRG call. For this reason, I would like to cancel this call as well as the call in November as I will be away. If any pressing issues arise, please post them on the Confluence page. We will resume regular calls in December.
Thank you.
Bruce
In the Netherlands we have an intensional reference set for allergens in our extension (excluding drug allergens). We find that there are a (lots of) concepts that are not descendant of allergen class, for example mustard seed and shellfish. And lots of concept that are allergens are not in Snomed yet. I wasnt able to join the last meetings unfortunately but I read that you are planning to create reference sets, will that also include allergen substances reference set? And is there a plan to r
The substance hierarchy is currently undergoing a review and revision. With regard to allergies, several allergy to X concepts, where X represents groupers that may not be clinically useful are being retired along with the causative substances. The allergen class hierarchy likely will be retired due to the difficulty identifying which substances are allergens (or pseudoallergens) and maintaining this on an ongoing basis. Allergens will be represented in the new substances model as dispositions. If deemed useful, an allergen refset can be created. This would be the responsibility of the allergy CRG to create and maintain. I think we have support for this. The allergy CRG will be meeting in London next Tuesday at 13:30. The agenda is posted on this site. Hope you can make it.
Hi Bruce,
Do I need to register to attend the allergy CRG meeting of the 10th of April PM either online or in the flesh?
Would you find a specific added value that I should make the afternoon hit-and-run trip to London for our session?
Thanks for your answer.
Marie-Alexandra
