Rules for generating descriptions:

  1. Remove the semantic tag, e.g. (body structure)
  2. Remove 'Structure of' from [body structure] if term starts with 'Structure of'   e.g. 709530002|Structure of phalanx of hand (body structure)|
  3. Remove 'structure' from [body structure] if term contains 'structure', e.g. 69536005|Head structure (body structure)|   24097009|Bone structure of hand (body structure)|
  4. Clinical course is optional. If it is not present in the logical model, the letter 'C' in 'contact' should be switched to upper case as the first letter in the description.
  5. Substance is optional, if it is not present in the logical model, "caused by [substance]" should not be included in the description.
  6. Finding site is optional, if it is not present in the logical model, "of [body structure]" should not be included in the description.

  1. Notes:

    1. "A major difference between anaphylaxis and other allergic reactions is that anaphylaxis typically involves more than one system of the body" (AAAAI).
    2. 14654002 |Localized anaphylaxis (disorder)| is a misuse of the term anaphylaxis. This likely just refers to a localized allergic reaction.
    3. Anaphylaxis may be due to Type I (IgE mediated), Type II (cytotoxic) or Type III (immune complex) mechanisms.
  2. Peter G. Williams , please update template language.

    Thank you

  3. Hi Bruce Goldberg

This template is different than what we agreed to for Adverse reaction to substance just a couple of weeks ago. Can you clarify please?

We agreed on the following modeling during our weekly calls and I have updated existing content accordingly.

    Thanks,

    Toni

    1. Hi Toni Morrison. I was working on modeling several complex anaphylaxis disorders for the QI project and I came to feel that anaphylaxis itself can be fully defined as an acute systemic  allergic disorder. There are other causes of anaphylaxis other than substances that need to be considered in the model. In addition, my original contention that anaphylaxis is always due to an IgE mechanism is incorrect as many would consider both cytotoxic and immune complex mechanisms to also fall under the umbrella of "immunologic anaphylaxis". We can discuss further during tomorrow's call. Sorry if this may cause you extra work. It seems that the WAO has recently updated their definitions and nomenclature around anaphylaxis.

      1. Hi Bruce Goldberg

As agreed in our WG call 14-Apr, I have updated the Pathologic process attribute values for 417516000 |Anaphylaxis caused by substance (disorder)| and its descendants for the 2020-July Release (see QI-502 for details). The changes should be promoted to MAIN later today.

        Thanks,

        Toni

  4. Peter G. Williams , please update template language.
