3 | Feeding and Dietary Regime 03.1 Recommended restructure draft 03.2 Feedback from Nursing CRG meeting | D. Pertel E. Wooler A. El Shikieri B. Swan |
| The revised restructure of the Feeding and dietary regime subhierarchy was provided, along with feedback by Nursing CRG (July 2024). One discussion item included whether the Nutrition therapy definition (Actions to affect the quantities, qualities, and methods of food (ie, solid or liquid) and/or nutrient intake. (adapted UMLS).) should be modified based on the Nursing CRG definition (Administration of food and fluids to support metabolic processes of a person with a chronic condition.). The two phrases in the Nursing CRG definition not presently represented are as follows, along with the determination by the Nutrition and Dietetics CRG: - "To support metabolic processes" RECOMMENDATION: Do not add to the definition since there are many reasons, beyond supporting metabolic processes, where the quantities, qualities and methods of food and/or nutrient intake might be modified. Texture and cultural modifications for example are not made to support metabolic processes.
“Person with a chronic condition” RECOMMENDATION: Do not add to the definition since it is not always true; dietitians provide nutrition therapy to those who are well and those with acute conditions also.
Overall, the recommended changes presented in the Feeding and dietary regime subhierarchy restructure were supported by the CRG. Work will ensue to make the changes as soon as is feasible. |
