TODO

  • Determine computed scope of ICD-O by looking through current map and determining transitive closure.

Agenda/Notes

  • Scope of ICD-O
    • * * One level up in the hierarchy (malignancy by morphology, etc..) - 1700+ cases
    • * * many not mapped (if a concept has subconcept, the child may not be fully mapped to ICDO codes)
      •  * * * KEY area
    • * * double-check that existing map is correct (e.g. concept request for Orphanet - small cell carcinoma - specific subtype).
    • * * when look at morphology in SNOMED - this is a synonym.  In ICD-O, treated same as a synonym  - shouldn't be. should be sub-type.
    • * * Also issue with NOS - will have a specific name.
    • * * Limit scope for now - look at refset mapping - only retrieve transitive closure of descendants of those concepts.
    • * * Scope in SCT hierarchy - can identify a single concept to subsume everything (in scope)
      • * * * ISSUE: quite a few things in SCT that are out of scope in ICDO
  • * Existing state of mapping (and style of mapping)
    • * * Are what is in map correct?
    • * * Are there things missing?
    • * * SCT has continued to change, but not the map. There have been only inactivations due to retired SNOMED concepts.
  • * ICD-O - version 3.1 (2011) - not changed in 5 or 6 years
    • * * Need to get file from WHO - still asking around to get the file
    • * * Some weird data, including / and digits after /
    • * * include 6th char? -
    •  * * No index needed
    • * * Preferred names and synonyms.
  • * QA - number of issues in existing map that need to be developed.  Be able to see mapping side-by-side, and with SNOMED hierarchy (for QA)
  • Consider migration to ICDO 3.2
  • need to promote certain (SNOMEDCT) content for mapping

Questions

  • Scope of SNOMED CT? A: for now, concepts in the map and transitive closure
  • What is codable in ICD-O (e.g. rules)? A: TBD, but look at existing map

Resources Needed

  • ICD-O 3.1 (2011) data file
  • SNOMED to ICD-O map (including refset id, etc.)
    • In SimpleMap refset file.
    • Map project metadata
      • Type of refset - Simple
      • Workflow path?
      • Need an option to map to nothing -> have a target code for this?
      • Yong-> map lead or specialist?

  1. Would add the workflow will be as it was for ICD-9-CM. Also the need to develop a map guidance document.

  2. I noticed our map displays as M-97083 in the SNOMED CT Browser but ICD-O uses this format M-9708/3. Should this be addressed when importing content into or when exporting out of the mapping tool? Not sure what the format for the WHO file will be.
