Seeking input on whether and how the the idea expressed by the term cognitive perception differs from the idea expressed by the term perception.

The work the CRG did around perception and sensation led to us to define perception as an inherently cognitive process. Is the term cognitive perception simply a way of making clear that one is referring to the cognitive rather than the sensory aspects of some perceptual experience?

Elaine Wooler found the following articles that use the term cognitive perception:

What are your thoughts Michael First , Laura Fochtmann , and Uma Vaidyanathan ?

  1. HiElaine, I can't figure out how to close this item.

It looks like the concept has been inactivated.

  2. Hi Piper Allyn Ranallo  It wasn't a concept in SNOMED it was something that came up on research but still think it is resolved.  I don't think there is a way to close but we could have another section under discussions called "archived discussions" or "resolved discussion"

    1. Thanks Elaine.

I'll see if i can find a way to add these to a 'resolved' category to clean up the discussion board.

Here is the concept we were referring to:

  3. Hi Piper Allyn Ranallo As you know, I have not been active here for quite some time, but this topic interests me because it relates to the concepts of "mindsets," i.e., mental models, thought patterns, and cognitive frameworks that are associated with emotional states and behavioral (coping) tendencies as per the attached image. Any interest in exploring this?

    1. Hi Stephen Beller,

It's great to hear from you! I know this is an area where you have deep interest and expertise.

Would you be interested in joining the call at the end of the month?

The CRG is currently working on mental disorders, but we are using input from CRG members to prioritize work. One critical next step is to address methods for ensuring that content changes are made based on sound, and inclusive methods for getting input from SMEs.

It would be great to have your input in the CRG again

      Warmest regards,

      Piper

      1. Sure, Piper. Please send me an invite and we can take it from there.
