In US, it would be possible to study orthodintics research questions using the CPT4 code D8080. This is a code that bills for 18 months of treatment is very generic. I have many questions for the members about orthodontics. I will start with some:
Do you have currently any orthodontic history data represented using SNOMED CT or even in some other format? (I would very curious about UK situation for this)
Do you track type of apparatus ?
How do you represent Invisalign type of treatment?
All the concepts seem to be primitive and without a definition. Has anyone proposed advancing it?
The lists of orthodontic appliance and orthodontic treatment codes are extensive. Without knowing more about the potential uses, it’s hard to determine which SNOMED CT terms are missing.

First - sign up for the UMLS United Medical Language System of the US National Library of Medicine (https://uts.nlm.nih.gov/metathesaurus.html) and then try the new Metathesaurus Browser alpha release.
"The UMLS Metathesaurus includes names and codes from standard biomedical vocabularies including SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, MeSH, CPT, ICD-10-CM, MedDRA, Human Phenotype Ontology, and more. For a full list of UMLS vocabularies, see the UMLS Metathesaurus Vocabulary Documentation.
How do I get an account?
Anyone can sign up for a free UMLS Terminology Services account. By agreeing to the terms of the UMLS Metathesaurus License, you get access to UMLS, RxNorm, SNOMED CT, and the Value Set Authority Center."
Second - Look up some terms that are on your template. Write down the code if a term is present. If it is not present, put it on an "absent" list.
Third - When you have some terms that don't have codes, you and I should talk via a webconference such as Zoom or Google Hangouts. The process I use for getting new SNOMED CT US codes is to first propse them from the American Dental Association SNODENT group meeting. If accepted, they are forwarded to SNOMED CT US. It can take a few months fo get a new code.
