  1. One of these is an actual error, and one needs to probably have the QA list fixed. The word "Check" should not fire a Validation error, this can't consistently be done with a rule, it should fire a warning when you are editing where you can then make the decision there. "Cheque vs. Check" and which one do you mean.

  2. The second error needs a different description added with "fibreoptic". This functionality used to be present in the old WB to create these descriptions automatically so we didn't have to worry about these. I don't see a way for us to remember when these should be created.

  3. The issue has been discussed at the Editorial Panel meeting and the following team meeting. Currently, the validation errors on US/GB spellings are holding us back from promoting content. The decision is to resolve the US/GB spelling errors as soon as possible.  I would like to explain the purpose and function of the US/GB lists first. The US/GB lists have been used to automatically generate synonyms based on the FSN in the Workbench. Furthermore, If a new SNOMED CT synonym contains a word in either list, another new synonym will be automatically generated. They can be preferred term or just synonym.  For example,
A new FSN contains ’esophageal’, two new synonyms should be generated 'oesophageal' for GB and 'esophageal' for US. A QA rule needs to check that the FSN must be in US spelling.
QUESTION - What are the changes for the below items from Romin?
-transesophageal
-tracheoesophageal <- this one seems misplaced in the US spelling list.
-esophagotracheal
-esophagoduodenal
A new synonym contains ’tumor’, the tool should automatically generated another synonym ’tumour’ for the GB spelling.
The current validation report only happens after descriptions have been manually added. The above automation function needs to be developed in the SCA tool to support effective authoring and avoid quality issues.
The problem for 'check' vs. 'cheque' is that the spelling variation cannot be applied automatically. For example, 'Heath check' will NOT require creating another term but 'Check payment' will need another term 'Cheque payment' for the GB spelling.
The solution will depend on the configuration in the SCA tool.  One option could be that 'check' vs. 'cheque' can be removed or marked in both US/GB list . The current error will go away. The QA errors against other words in the lists have to be fixed by authors.  The validation can provide a report for warning for those removed or marked words. Author can make change when it is needed, e.g. a new term for 'cheque' or ignore warning if it is intended for 'check'. The benefit of this approach is that the revised lists can be used for generating new terms when the function is going to be developed in the SCA. The incorrect synonym such as 'health cheque' will not be automatically generated (It did happen in the Workbench).

Change references to the word Cheque - KK -The RVF doesn't currently use the concept of severity so it can't produce warnings. It would require a new release of the RVF.We had planned to have a whitelisting feature where the author could override a validation failure, using their name, and the RVF would ignore that case in the future. I’ve highlighted changes in the attached documents. The yellow highlights should be warnings/alerts but not errors because we need to normalize FSNs and PTs to the INN terms.
I also highlighted a few items in red that I think should be removed.
QUESTION -Regarding the potential changes for the INN in, the question would be whether the GB spellings for these INN terms have been used in UK and Australia. If the answer is yes, the words will need to be kept. If no, they will be removed or marked for warnings.

  1. Please find the update for US/GB variation lists following feedback from Suzanne and Farzaneh.

    1. There is a variant spelling on the US list which is erroneous "neurepithelial" - think it is the same in both languages i.e. "neurOepithelial". Please remove the former from the US list. thanks, Monica

  2. Confirm that I have remodelled all the cheque/check concepts.
