Hi all,

As raised briefly at the April Nursing CRG meeting work has been occurring to support the development of subontologies for specific domains including nursing. This work has now progressed to the point that the IAA Content Extraction and Sharing group is looking for feedback via a questionnaire. It would be appreciated if Nursing CRG members would look at the subontology browser located: https://iaa.snomed.tools/? and respond to the questionnaire by the end of July. Note, the nursing subontology shown in the browser relates to the content in the current SNOMED CT Nursing Activities and Nursing Health Issues reference sets. It does not include the current ICNP-SNOMED CT work.

Further information and a link to the questionnaire are included in this PDF: Notes for subontologies and feedback.pdf

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Kind regards,

Cathy Richardson

  1. Unfortunately the pdf is not visible and apologies for not being able to make the meeting.  Just a clarification on 'subontology', is this just while it is in the development phase? With anticipation it will be put into the international release in the future? Many thanks

  2. Hi Zac Whitewood-Moores, I can access the PDF. Would you like me to forward you a copy? I'll just need your latest email address if you'd send me an email.

Yongsheng Gao -would you please answer Zac's question. Ta.

    1. Thanks Cathy zac@whiterosehealthcare.co.uk please, thanks Yongsheng too.

  3. Hi Zac Whitewood-Moores, we noted some potential applications of subontologies in the PDF file. The subontology can be a new way for distribution or sharing content for a clinical domain or application, e.g. SNOMED CT terminology for nursing. We hope that the subontology will help domain experts to review and utilise content in SNOMED CT because all irrelevant information has been removed. For example, it will be much easier to find the right concept for clinical records. We could produce the snapshot release data files or update this browser for each release if it is desirable from the feedback.

Cathy Richardson, the link to PDF file does not work for me either. So, I uploaded the PDF here Notes for subontologies and feedback.pdf

    Cheers,

    Yong

  4. Thanks Yongsheng Gao, so like a refset with relationships intact as opposed to an extension for the domain.  That appears to be very beneficial for the review and socialisation phases in particular.

    1. Hi Zac Whitewood-Moores, yes, a refset is just a list of concepts. But the subontology includes relationships as a standalone terminology for nursing.
