00:00: This guide provides instructions for creating Concepts to your snomed

00:04: CT extension using simplex. The process is

00:08: initiated by exploring the snomed CT browser and identifying

00:12: the proper parent for your concept. Then editing the spreadsheet

00:16: with the details about your New Concept including the addition of relevant synonyms.

00:22: Finally uploading the spreadsheet into simplex and checking that the concept

00:26: has been created is intended. Review this video to see how this

00:30: is done step by step.

00:33: First navigate to the extension artifacts manager area and

00:37: Simplex.

00:39: Here you'll notice that some Concepts have already been added.

00:43: These include the metadata Concepts required to represent the extension Plus

00:47: any derivatives you have added. To view the concepts and

00:51: the details for managing these click simple extension Concepts.

00:56: Now you see the concepts currently included in your extension to the right

01:00: of the screen. Notice how you see the concepts naming and

01:04: identifying the derivatives you have created? You will also find your module

01:08: concept.

01:10: To create a new concept for your extension.

01:12: The first thing you need to do is to download the spreadsheet with the details about the

01:16: concepts in your extension. Click the download button to the right of

01:20: Step 1 in the process description below the concepts.

01:25: Before editing the spreadsheet you just downloaded you need to make sure that you

01:29: know, the details of the parent concept of your new extension concept.

01:33: Therefore go to your extension browser. You can do this by following

01:37: the link next to any of your extension Concepts.

01:42: In the browser do a search for the concept that should be the parent of your extension

01:46: concept. In this example.

01:48: I want to create a concept representing a local procedure on the respiratory

01:52: system. So the parent I want is the concept procedure

01:57: on respiratory system.

02:00: Once you've identified the appropriate parent concept for your new extension concept

02:04: copy the concept ID and a term for the parent concept.

02:09: Now open the spreadsheet with the extension Concepts you downloaded earlier

02:13: in your preferred spreadsheet editor. Bear in mind that you should be

02:17: able to save the spreadsheet in Excel format after editing.

02:22: This is the spreadsheet in which you apply all the information required to create your

02:26: extension Concepts. The first row includes some

02:30: instructions helping you to add the necessary information correctly.

02:34: Notice how the first two columns include the concept identifier and the terms for

02:38: the parent Concepts.

02:41: In the First Column enter the concept ID for the parent concept

02:45: and in the second column add the term for the parent concept.

02:49: Notice that each extension concept created in Simplex can only have one

02:53: parent.

02:55: As you are creating a New Concept for your extension, you should ignore columns

02:59: C and D which are used to hold the identifier for the concept and the active

03:03: state. When uploading the spreadsheet into Simplex, it

03:07: will generate an identifier for your concept and assign at the status of active.

03:13: Having provided the details about the parent concept navigate to column

03:17: enf to apply the terms for the new extension concept.

03:21: Column e is for terms in English in the US English dialect.

03:26: Column F is for terms in your local language or dialect.

03:31: In this example. I am only going to create terms in English.

03:35: In the same row as the details for the parent concept I enter the term that

03:39: is going to be the preferred term.

03:42: In the subsequent rows you can add the synonyms you want for your concept? Please

03:47: note that you don't need to add any values in column a to d.

03:52: Once you have created your Concepts in the related terms, you should save

03:56: and download the spreadsheet in Excel format.

04:00: Once you have edited the sheet with the details of your extension Concepts navigate

04:05: back to simplex.

04:07: Click the choose file button in step 3 of the process and once the

04:11: file has been selected you click the upload data button.

04:16: Once the import has been performed. You can now see the concept in the list

04:20: of extension Concepts. In the case of multiple Concepts,

04:24: you may have to navigate to another page to see them all.

04:29: You can click open in browser to view the concept and its Associated synonyms.

04:35: In the browser, you can now see the concept appearing in the hierarchy is expected

04:39: with the parent you stated in the spreadsheet.

04:43: You can also see the terms you stated as synonyms.

04:46: Note that the concept has inherited the defining properties from its parent.

04:51: In this example, the concept has a procedure site of structure of respiratory

04:55: system.
