SNOMED CT Clinical Implementation Guide for Allergy, Hypersensitivity and Intolerance
4 | SNOMED and LOINC - representing allergy testing in SNOMED |
- Request from the Netherlands to add several adhesive plasters as allergenic substances to SNOMED
- Decision to allow the use of physical objects as allergens for refsets
- From M-A: We made a special refset in Belgium called "interface terms" where we put all the synonyms people like to have to find concepts but that are "not allowed" by the SNOMED international editorial rules: slang, unxpanded acronyms, local terms. In that refset we have "cat" for cat protein". So the healthcare professionals registering the allergy can search the substances and pick "cat" in the substance based allergy registration model. And the system will register the biological truth which is cat protein. We have also a patient friendly term refset. In that one cat is also allowed as synonym for cat protein. So for the patient it'll display also reaction= allergy and substance = cat. But for data exchange between healthcare professionals, it'll display the preferred term, "cat protein" (unless the local software is configured in another way).
- M-A has done a class and relationship graph representation of the AllergyIntolerance model and its relationships with the other FHIR resources for here in Belgium. Do you think it would be an interesting addition to our guide?
- Call during April business meeting scheduled for April 11 at 16:00 UTC for 90 minutes.
- Marie-Alexandra Lambot and I will prepare agenda for next meeting to begin discussing gap analysis with ICD-11

5 | 367428009 |Desensitization therapy (regime/therapy)
| Question: SNOMED is involved in a mapping project with MedDRA, and MedDRA has a procedure, ‘Immune tolerance induction’. We think this isn’t quite the same as SNOMED’s 182678001 |Allergen immunotherapy (regime/therapy)|. Immune tolerance induction [ITI] has been used in Hemophilia A, so it’s not just for allergies but autoimmune disorders and post-transplants. 1. Is ITI the same as 243196004 |Immunoglobulin desensitization therapy (regime/therapy)|? (My) Answer:
