Project Status Orphanet

Launched in Sept. 2022 by member request to address the need for increased volume of international clinical drug content in the International release. Rather than ask for an infinite no. of CRS requests, SNOMED International decided to set up this project to review existing content in National extensions. Once reviewed and approved by the project group, this content is being promoted to the international release.

Post July 2022 International release
2022Project ScopeDeliverablesRelease

In October 2021 the first production release of SNOMED CT to Orphanet maps was published. Updates were made to the maps based on feedback from the Alpha release with no extension of the maps that were originally in scope for the project.

Map Extension

In 2022, the project scope will be extended in response to member feedback. The existing product will be extended by a further 1025 entries.

Of the 1025 proposed new entries, 255 have an exact match to an existing concept in SNOMED CT and 107 entries have a probable match. These proposed maps will be reviewed by Orphanet and if acceptable these entries will be added to the Orphanet 2022 production release. If the proposed map is not acceptable, a new concept will be added to SNOMED CT.

From the 1025 entries reviewed, it was identified that 663 entries will require a new concept to be added to SNOMED CT.  These new concepts will be added over 4 International (6 monthly) release cycles. Once the new concept has been published, and the map validated, the new entry will be included in the Orphanet production release.

Map Maintenance

There will be ongoing correction of any mapping issues based on feedback. There will also be biannual updates of the maps based on content that has been made obsolete or deprecated in Orphanet or inactivated in SNOMED CT.
