Anyone with a Chrome web browser, so long as it is for reference and educational purposesSimplex is designed for SNOMED International Members and Affiliates seeking a cost-effective solution for creating, maintaining, and distributing SNOMED CT extensions. It caters to those who require basic components and derivatives of SNOMED CT, have budgetary constraints, and possess the capability to independently perform ongoing maintenance of the created content.

Simplex offers a free toolkit that assists in generating SNOMED CT extensions tailored to specific needs and customization requirements of SNOMED International Members and Affiliates. It allows users to create translation extensions, subsets, maps, and other derivatives, empowering them to manage SNOMED CT content without the need for expensive external tools or services.

titleWhat can I do with it?

Users can utilize Simplex to:

  • Create language extensions by importing and generating publication-ready translation packages.
  • Develop subset extensions by importing non-publication-ready subset files and generating the required reference set files.
  • Generate simple map extensions and extensions containing minimal-modeled concepts.
  • Release SNOMED CT extensions, select content for extensions, and perform other associated tasks.

titleWhen can I use it?

Simplex is available as an online service hosted by SNOMED International. Users can access it at any time to perform tasks related to creating and managing SNOMED CT extensions. 

At present, Simplex is only available for a selected number of early adopters, but we expect increased capacity during 2024.

titleWhere should I use it?
  • Anywhere you can use a web browser with a preferred screen size of 1600 x 900  pixels (HD+) or greater. Lower resolutions may be usable, but not optimised for the application components screen layout. The application is designed for use and tested in the Chrome web browser.

titleHow can I use it?
  • The SIMPLEX Tool is a web services application designed to be used on a personal computer with a good internet connection via the Google Chrome web browser.
  • Recommended client platform requirements:
    • Operating System and hardware specifications as for Chrome
    • Minimum monitor resolutions:
      • 1600 x 900 px (HD+ 16:9)
      • 1600 x 1024 px (WSXGA 16:10)
      • 1600 x 1200 px (UXGA 4:3)
    • Internet connection:
      • Broadband (4G minimum)
  • Other combinations of web browsers, machine hardware, lower screen resolutions and slower internet connectivity may still work but are not optimised and not supported.
